Fortnite Video Game: Tips and Tricks for Playing

Overview of Fortnite

In Fortnite, 100 players are dropped onto the battlefield from the Battle Bus, wielding nothing but their pickaxe. The goal is to collect weapons and resources, using the pick, to build structures that will give you the upper hand in fights, which are bound to happen.

The Battle Bus travels in a fixed direction, and you can strategically choose where to drop off, if you know that a certain area has good loot.

There is a Safe Zone around the entire map that shrinks as the game goes on, forcing players closer to each other, and creating more fights between them.

The last player standing gets the Victory Royale, and wins the match. That’s the aim of the game in a nutshell - stay alive, beat all the players, and win. There’s not much else to the game, but if you’re looking to get good, then you’ll want to have a few tricks up your sleeve.

General Tips

Fortnite is quite similar to many other Battle Royale games out there, like Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, though it is a bit simpler. Here are some basic tips that will help you stay alive in the arena.

Stay Quiet

Keeping quiet in Fortnite is one of the most important things you can do. If a player is able to detect you nearby by the sound you’re making, they will have quite an advantage, even if you have an inventory full of Legendary loot.

This means that you should avoid sprinting wherever you can. Walking and crouching are the much quieter options, and can save your life.

Be Cautious

You should be on high-alert at all times when playing Fortnite. Enemies can be lurking around every corner and inside every building, and you’ll need to remember that if you want to stay alive.

If you’re engaged in a shootout with one player, there are likely three other opportunistic players heading in your direction to finish off whichever one of you survives. Build walls to protect your flanks, and only engage players that are an actual threat right then and there.

Weapons and Items

The weapons in Fortnite are varied, and they are also categorized into different rarities. They are Common (Grey), Uncommon (Green), Rare (Blue), Epic (Purple), and Legendary (Gold). If you’re lucky, you’ll stumble upon the rarer items, which generally deal more damage and are more useful late-game.

The best weapons are usually the ones that can be used from a distance, as you won’t have to get up close and personal with a player that you’re engaging.

The Sniper Rifle is one of the most popular weapons in the game, as it allows you to take down players from great distances, without them ever knowing you were there.

Don’t be fooled, though - keeping a short-range weapon with you, like the Shotgun, for example, is important as well. You never know when you’re going to turn the corner to an enemy waiting to blow you out of the match.

Locations

Choosing the location that you land in when a game starts is a very important decision. As a beginner, you should try to avoid landing in the areas that are more built-up, as those are the places that more experienced players gravitate toward, and you don’t want to encounter them just yet.

Stick to the less-populated areas. They will have manageable loot, and you’ll be able to progress from them with ease.
